i was working on my computer and the screen froze, i tried control -alt-delete and that didnt work so i turned it off at the power.
the computer will no longer re-boot.
the fan is working, and the mouse is working, but it will not power the printer, screen or scanner.
what could this be? it is not the power supply and it is not the graphics card - what could it be? i am concerned that will lose all the information on my hard drive? what else could it be? if i have lost all my information can i get it back?
Update:............the monitor only shows a message that there is "no signal" and the mouse is an optical mouse and is lighting up.
i cannot actually get into my computer whatsoever!.....hope this additional informaiton helps! - im so confused!

the one was broken i couldn't told you because it can be a lot of various..but i think maybe the power supply..
but for the possibility of data lost, i can give you suggestion...unplug your hard drive and then try it on the others computer that working (maybe you can borrow your friend's) if it working so it don't have any problems..
IN LIGHT OF THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION PROVIDED...
Just because the monitor says "No Signal" it does not have to be a video card problem, it could be saying no signal because the video card stuffed and not passing the signal from the motherboard to the monitor
However it could be saying "No Signal" because the video card is not even receiving a signal from the motherboard to display on the monitor.
If you turn the computer on and nothing at all comes on the screen not even "POST" (The usually black screen with the white writing on it) then there is a very high chance that it is your video card that is stuffed, if not the video card next would be RAM, CPU or :-( Motherboard...
You need to be able to test these different sections, as at this stage it could be any one of these stopping the computer from starting up period... Its kinda like a safety switch, once one of these things are not working then it cuts out everything as to not cause any more damage.
Try borrowing someones graphics card to see if that fixes the problem.
If you know how to try taking out the RAM and CPU, then put them back in again, they might not be seated properly, if possible try some different RAM or CPU, permitting they are compatible...
If all the above fails then, there is not too much else it can be except the motherboard....
Hope that is a bit more of a help.
hmmmmm....Screen froze and then a message you are getting is no signal to monitor. My opinion, your video card died, more then likely. Test it in another system, if possible. Still no signal, then you know your problem. Replace the card. and move on. You should not lose any data. If the video card is not the problem then it would be the motherboard next. There are ways to test without having to wipe and reload the entire system to find out. You have a "signal" problem. Not a "power" problem. I can almost swear that it is the video card. I have had to change enough of them over the past ten years in my work as a technician. And when the monitor says no signal. it is almost always a dead video card. The only time it would be power is if you just installed a NEW HIGH END video card.
Is your laptop broken or contaminated with an endemic? so a approaches as dropping the venture, have not your heard of backups? a million) You misplaced a working laptop or laptop venture and are at yet another laptop. So, re-do the venture NOW. 2) Get a backup equipment. Ask the guy who's fixing your laptop. shouldn't fee over $20-25. 3) recover from the limp dishrag act. you're actually not a peripheral, and the laptop isn't your female buddy. in case you extremely have been that lots of a nerd, you may comprehend greater approximately viruses. 4) Use Firefox interface, it is lots safer than Explorer. With Explorer, you are able to p.c.. up a lot of malware. Get your laptop individual to place in spyware, malbytes, and bit defender, all loose variations, and have them tutor you the thank you to apply them. (replace previously each and each test, run spyware, and if something won't eliminate, pass to malbytes, and if something won't eliminate, nicely, bit defender must be set as much as run itself, so at that ingredient call your laptop individual. additionally, verify what sites you're vacationing. Stuff to dodge: direct mail, commercials, loose utility which you probably did no longer REQUEST. in certainty, property you probably did no longer request is the main suspect. do no longer take their observe for it that they seem to be a respected business enterprise - every person can lie. touch the business enterprise your self. And run adaware weekly, a minimum of. i attempt to run it each and on a daily basis, whilst i'm engaged on laptop lots, two times each and every week at different cases. (Little stuff meets different little stuff and joins up, at last gets to the malware degree, then an identical element happens and it could get to the virus degree - in case you do no longer seem out for your self. If I open the incorrect element, I run advert conscious as quickly as I end final down what's energetic on the demonstrate screen.
check all connections inside especially hard drive/s and connections to motherboard. is your printer and scanner host powered(no seperate power lead) could be power connector on motherboard, when you say your mouse is working - i take it you mean it lights up! because you've lost printer and scanner i assume they draw their power from motherboard(host) so it sounds like your motherboard is at fault. is your mouse wireless? then it would light up anyway because of its battery, if so then i would again say motherboard and therefore although a new motherboard may be needed, your data on hard drive should be safe so all is not lost. this is the fourth case i've read on here in the last two weeks including a similar incident myself(new worm on the loose maybe?????)
it could very well be the power supply. the 12 volt rail may be OK, but maybe the 3.3 volt rail has died. in which case the 12 volt fans will still work, but the cpu isn't getting the proper voltage to allow it to start. Try metering the voltages at the motherboard connector(leave it plugged into the motherboard) or replace the psu.
There could be a lots of possibilities for this problem. Your Computers motherboard may be bad. Is the initial display coming? Is there any error message showing?
Regarding the data if the Hard disk is OK you will get back your data.
Could be one or more of a million things.
Can't be solved via here.
Take it to an expert.
