and it's driving me crazy.
I just received my ipod nano black 2G 8GB, and I right away downloaded iTunes7 and plugged my iPod in. I ignored the new hardware pop-up like I always do, and alas, neither my computer nor my iTunes will recognize my iPod.
It's nowhere to be seen. The iPod IS charging, or so it says on the iPod, but there's not even a single trace of iPod-ness on my computer. What do I do? Please help!
Update:hi, the second answerer(?). haha. um, i tried what you suggested, and i actually found the USB option not in BIOS (or whatever that was) but in somethin else from the blue screen. but it was already enabled. (i use a flashdrive all the time so i was assuming that). my computer still won't recognize it. Please Help!

Charging is a simple function, just like sticking a plug into an outlet.
The software notice is unnecessary.
Try checking My Computer and see if there is a external usb drive hooked up. If so, then try looking at the manual and follow it step by step.
I encountered a similar problem with my new MP3 player (not an ipod), and it turned out the problem was that the USB port was not turned on. It will still charge it, but it won't recognize that anything it there. The solution is rather complicated, but here it is:
As soon as you turn on your computer (as it is booting up) press "delete". It should bring you to a blue menu. Select the option "BIOS" (there may be other words with it). Look for an option with "usb" in it, and select that. Under one of the next options, you will see "All Disabled". Select "all enabled" and then save and exit the blue menu. Your computer will finish booting up, and try connecting your iPod again.
Clear as mud? I'd suggest finding a computer-wiz friend to do it for you. However, IF you follow the instructionscarefully (which might be difficult, I admit) it should work.
This maybe happening because your ipod must have learnt how to talk to an apple computer and now you are connecting it to a winndows computer. The first time if you connect and take songs from an apple computer then your ipod wont be able to talk to a windows computer. You will have to reupdate yuor ipod to the windows computer and then only take songs from a windows computer. This means that all your old songs will get deleted.
nicely ko first element calm down because this would nicely be mounted in distinct procedures, your i-tunes may be dealing with some momentary element fixing the position its attempting to comprehend your ipod. in case you dont havei-tunes attempt to get limewire and receive songs from there that you'll sync with the help of residing house windows media participant. if not then plug ur USB cable in diverse USB plugs. if not. receive even if got here with the i-pod back into the computing gadget. dont difficulty your songs will stay in it =) desire this helped!!
-you need to re-intall iTunes version 7.0.2
www.apple.com/ipod/download
-then you need to restart your iPod (press the MENU and center button down for 6 seconds; the apple logo should appear)
