my chihuahua puppy is ten weeks old and she still has blue eyes. will her eyes stay this color? i also heard that blue eyes result in blindness later in her life. is this true?
The blue eye gene is rare in most breeds of dogs. Sometimes it is accompanied by the merle gene, which is a marbled looking coat pattern. Even though all puppies are born with blue eyes, some can keep the color. At 10 weeks, they should be turning darker, but eyes that will stay blue will always look a little "off" from others. In our recent English Setter litter, the runt kept his blue eyes, we ended up keeping him as this isn't show standard, and he had a great personality. One of the things associated with this was the thought of prematurity. Our female was bred twice to the stud dog, to insure it taking, and this puppy has a high chance of being from the second breeding. Only a day apart, this leads to up to 2 weeks developmental slowing. If your puppy was premature, the eye may not have developed everything for the eye to change from blue to a normal color later in life. We did a lot of research on this, and talked to our vet about it. Blue eyes often are associated to deafness in one ear or both, but this would be from birth, not developed later in life. You can give the puppy a simple test by bringing him in a room alone and looking for a reaction to noises. I would not recommend breeding it, as even if the deafness isn't apparent, it may show up later in the gene pool.Otherwise, the puppy should leave a happy life, with no problems. And if they do keep the blue eyes, it will just make the addition to your family more unique.
All puppies and kittens are born with blue eyes that will change as they get older. They may not change but more than likely they will unless it is a white dog, they have blue eyes more often. Blue eyes are not a sign of blindness but deafness and more so if there is one blue and one of another color.
Human babies and puppies all start out with blue eyes. Blue eyes don't cause blindness. Did either of your puppy's parents have blue eyes? Probably, the eyes will gradually turn brown but if they stay blue, that's okay, too.

Lots od puppies have blue eyes and then they change as they get older.
I once had a puppy with blue eyes and when she got older, her eyes changed to the prettiest gold/amber color ... kind of like a lion's color of eyes.

RE:
My new puppy has blue eyes?

Nah, it won't stay unfortunately. I was all exceited like you also when my lab had blue eyes. HOLY **** I GOT A RARE ONE!!
But later on, around 3 months or so it changed a bit darker. Then darker and darker into a murky brown color. It's ok. She's still cute.
If you really like the blue eyes, take her out at night and shine light into it. It reflects this neon green color. xD
was she born with blue eyes?
because if she was then they will most likley stay that way.
But they may change.
and no, blue eyes do not result into blindness later in life.
i hope this helped:)
No, it is normal for some dogs. If the blue eyes don't go away, this is likely her eye color. And it wont result in blindness, dont worry. :)
