recently my wifi signals have been screwy. whenever i try to connect to my wifi, the signals are shown to be negative. normally the signal strength is around 50 but now its something like -17

Make sure that you have the latest driver for the wireless adapter as well as the latest firmware on the router.
Also try changing channel on the router to 11.
