Alright I am a junior in high school and right now here is my plan for the future. I want to get out of high School and join the Navy as a CS. A few reasons for this include; Free training, room, food, etc. (I don't want to be worrying about where my next meal will come from), I want to see the world, I'm hoping to get plenty of experience, and I can save quite a bit of money while my time serving.
I do realize this field will be very demanding and difficult, but I am willing to do it. What do you guys think of the idea? If I really enjoy it, should I try to get the 20 year pension? How about any tips to prepare myself for the navy? Any advice about anything would be appreciated. Thanks!
Update:@Eddy That's the thing, I keep getting mixed answers about what I'll be making. Some say I am a glorified cafeteria, while my dad, who was a navy man, said he had Chicken Cordon Bleu and steaks on ship. And my thought was, just like any culinary career you start off fairly low, but will build you're way up.

Most of the food that you cook will be similar to school cafeteria food. You are feeding a lot of people. Once in a while we had steak on the ship. However, it was not very good quality. If you work in the chief's mess or the officer's wardroom, the quality of the food is better.
I was USMC food service specialist. did a month on a boat.chances of you working in the enlisted galley are high doin normal stuff nothing crazy. but if you can get to the ward room your doing steaks and lobster for 3 stars and other officers. good luck.
The only thing you will be cooking is cheese burgers and putting spaghetti on plates. Also you will take tempatures of foods and record it, that's the extent of your chef work for the Navy.
