I'm getting my belly button pierced soon, and I know when they initially pierce it, you have a very simple ring. But once it heals, what kind of ring would work with a short torso, maybe even enlongate it? I don't want to look stocky with the ring, because other than my short torso, I have a good figure. Any other tips about the piercing would be much appreciated. Thanks! (:

get a dangling piece of jewelry =.))
Piercings depend on your pain tolerance. All in all, if the piercing is done correctly, it feels like a pinch and afterwards it feels like a hot curling iron is right next to the pierced flesh. Swelling is normal as long as it doesnt exceed a week. You can take medicine such as Advil, Tylonal, and Motrin to take down the swelling.
---------- CHOOSING A SHOP ----------
you want to explore =.)
visit shops and ask about their jewelry, cleanliness and experience.
* DO NOT go to a shop because its cheap. sometimes you get what you paid for.
* MAKE SURE the jewelry isnt nickle filled as it may cause scar tissue to form
* SEA SALT is a must for any piercing. if they don't give you or even mention the sea salt solution, dont even think about going there.
* DO NOT get a new piercing pierced with a hoop or dangly jewelry. a hoop will flop around making it harder to heal as well as dangling jewelry. therefore, that leave you with a stud; make sure the post is a bit longer than normal allowing room for swelling.
---------- CARE PROCESS ----------
do not touch the piercing! do not twist the piercing!
* use the sea salt solution. the sea salt prevents the flesh around the piercing from rotting and heals the piercing faster and better. take a pinch if sea salt (found at local pet shops) and mix it with warm water.
* (for nose) take a q-tip and place it in the water and up your nose and lightly rub around the piercing. repeat the same with the outside of your nose.
* (for lip) take a piece of paper towel, not toilet paper because pieces come off, and dip it on the salt water. place it on the piercing in the inside of your mouth and leave it there to soak for about 5 minutes. repeat for the outside side of your piercing. do not touch or twist the jewelry. do the sea salt solution once a day. also, mix half Listerine and half water and apply it on both sides of your piercing 2 times during the day and once before bed. and don't forget to brush your teeth regularly.
* (for naval) take a piece of paper towel, not toilet paper because pieces come off, and dip it on the salt water. place it on the piercing and leave it there to soak for about 5 minutes.
* use medicated soup in the shower. add a dab on your finger tip and rub around the piercing. let the water wash the soup away. do not try to get the soup in the pierced hole by moving the jewelry in and out. it soup and water will get in the piercing without your help.
* keep lotions and makeup away from the piercing through the healing process
DO NOT go to a doctor for any piercing questions. Although they are trained to deal with bodily functions, they are not trained in dealing with piercings. Go to the tattoo shop you got it done at.
I think if you just keep your jewelry simple, anything would look great. You can always find inexpensive ones all over the place. I have a really cool twisty one like this:

I think that style would look nice.
Remember to keep it clean and baby it. Belly rings always get caught on clothing and get bumped. They're also notorious for infection. Hope you enjoy it!
You can get a bar or a ring to start out with. I would say go with the bar it would look better on a short torso.
