It's just a different style. It all depends on the players preference of sound.
Do they love the emotion, rhythm, and simplicity of the blues? Do they love quieter, slow paced sound of the blues?
Or do they love the emotion, technicality, and speed of metal? The loud and aggressive sound of metal?
As an overall opinion though, blues is a necessity to get the feel for when it comes to playing guitar, bass, or drums. It's the root genre for all genres associated with those instruments.
