The original DS is already discontinued and has been for almost 2 years now. The only models in production are the DS Lite and the DSi.
If you're asking when Nintendo is going to stop making DS altogether, though... not for at least a few more years. They're making too much money on it to retire it anytime soon.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the DSi. Yeah, it's got some cool features, but it pissed me off that tey removed the GBA backward compatibility. There are some awesome GBA games that I love, and I don't really want a GBA console (I've got too many consoles as it is)... so I'm sticking with my Lite.
First of all, grammar will make your question easier to read.
Second, it'll be a LONG time until the DSi will be discontinued, because it just came out.
The DSi cannot play Gameboy Advance games, and it has internet, but it's completely useless. It's got a shop on the DSi but the games there aren't very good.
The DSi has more features, but these features are useless. I'd rather get a regular DS. It plays more games and has less useless features.

You should probably get her a DS Lite if she wants to play gameboy games on it, because the DSi Removed that feature.
Also if she wants Guitar Hero for the DS get her the DS Lite...the DSi doesn't support that feature.
