Does it matter if you are in drive or reverse? if you have noise in one but not the other could be broken motor mount causing the engine to lift and thereby putting pressure on fan shroud. to check for bad mount have somebody put car in DR and then R while you observe engine . does it lift when in DR. Oh yeah do have person in car hold foot on brake while doing this may have to give slight throttle to see any lift, not a lot of throttle mind you.
