They are two completely different CPUs. nVidia Tegra 3 is an ARM chip while Intel Core i5 is an x86 chip. They support different instruction sets and run completely different operating systems. So you can’t easily compare their performance. However, Core i5 is designed for high performance general computing while Tegra 3 is designed for low power mobile computing. Therefore i5 can be considered much faster than Tegra 3. Comparing those two chips in essence is like comparing an HTC One X smart phone (has a Tegra 3) to something like a HP Pavilion DV6 Laptop with a core i5.

I would go for the Intel i5 because it is very stable and you can use it in a gaming machine.
