I have a my00 impreza turbo which decided to cut out while driving, I have changed the fuel relay under the dash but there is still no power to the pump. I have run a (switched & fused) live to the fuel pump and the car starts and drives perfect. Any ideas what could be the problem/solution? also is it safe to use the car with the live i have run to the pump? if not why not? thanks in advance the subaru has been great up until now!
Update:Oh and the fuse is perfect and there isnt an inertia switch on these cars

Check the inertia switch. Then check for continuity in the circut at the fuse panel.
There is obviouly a break in the wiring somewhere. They jury-rig you set up is dangerous in only one aspect. It will not shut off when the ignition does and can cause a pressurised fuel line to drip raw fuel into your intake. (assuming you have a throttle-body or carbuerator) or into the combustion chamber if you have a multiport FI system. There is also an outside chance of a fire if you have an accident. Since simply switching off your ignition will not disable the fuel pump, if you are in an accident and are injured or otherwise unable to shut it off emergency response personnel may assume turing off your ignition disabled your fuel pump. If your vehicle has a fuel leak the pump will pump the wole gas tank out through it. I know this from back in the day when we used electric fuel pumps on our hot rods! I feel like a broken record saying this but it is often the case in these matters. Have you done or had one any repairs or installed any equipment on this car reciently? If so, that would be the first place to look for a bad connection. -Merry Christmas! .
Fuse or a shorted wire.
