Polarized is great for reducing glare, which will be commonly encountered. Normal sunglasses aren't bad though, but the main thing you want to look for is the uv rating, which protects your eyes from ultraviolet rays. Polarized are well
Worth the money especially if the area is crowded with structures which produces a lot if glare, but if your on a budget then normal ones are good enough from what you say you are using them for.
I prefer polarized as tehy are great at cutting glare and far better if you get migraine as they cut sparkle better. I also think they cut more sunlight than normal sunglasses. However if you're just walking about on campus you might find it easier to have transitions which change according to the amount of sun. Its personal preference really and all you can do is experiment which can be a bit expensive unless you can borrow some to experiment with.
Polarized lenses selectively filter out reflected light more than they do direct sunlight. This can help a lot with glare. It is a big deal around water but I am sure there are other surfaces on campus that reflect light and cause unpleasant glare. Polarized lenses are usually more wearable inside that other sunglasses that appear equally dark.
Some LCD screens are impossible to see with polarized lenses. Some windows appear to have patterns in them that are not visible otherwise.
polarized glasses really cut way down on the glare.
if you live in the deep south or the southwest then you'll really notice a difference between normal sunglasses & polarized sunglasses.
if you live in the MidAtlantic region or further north then you won't notice the difference so much.
There isn't much of a difference, but polarized would be better in the long run

The lenses in the polarized sunglasses collection can beat down glare without compromising clarity. And the normal sunglasses don't have this function,so they may distort your vision and they don’t block nearly enough glare.
