If you want a pleasant drive and are not in a hurry, take the Skyline Drive through VA, then the Blue Ridge Parkway into NC. The views are magnificent. Then drive over the Smokies, stopping at Clingman's Dome. Head across TN to stop in Nashville where you can pick up the Natchez Trace all the way down to Vicksburg MS.

Come o nashville be glad to have you here. memphis could be out the way if you where taking 65 south but if not 40 from nashville to memphis is about 4 hrs then i 55 down to LA is about another 5 to 6 hrs...if 65 south huntsville alabama is cool at the space center.

I just looked at your route and it takes you close to Gettysburg PA and if you haven't been there it's worth the stop. We stayed at the Motel 6 there this year cheap clean friendly, close to everything. We ate dinner and breakfast at Perkins family restaurant just down York road both meals were real good and inexpensive the road
