Some things just need processed or mushy peas, like fish & chips (except we call processed peas "lardy peas" in our house, because that's what they make you if you eat too many). Mostly though, fresh or frozen garden peas are favourite.
Peas have to either be freshly podded (takes ages but the taste and texture is worth it) or frozen, garden peas tend to have mint already added yuck so choose petit pois instead, processed/mushy/marrowfat are absolutely revolting.

Got to be mushy, but not canned. Dried peas that you steep overnight make the best mushy peas.
