no philadelphia spread isnt classed as a soft cheese. the cheese to be avoided are the cheeses with the blue viens in for instance. be reassured your love of philly can carry on with no risk to your baby. i ate loads all through all three of mine. i originally thought the same as you so asked my midwife who laughed and told me to eat away!
And some more;
# Avoid raw or lightly cooked eggs, as your resistance to Salmonella may be lower, especially in the first trimester. Eat only hard-boiled eggs, or egg dishes that have been cooked thoroughly or made with pasteurised eggs.
# Don't eat pates, unpasteurised milk, blue-veined or soft unpasteurised cheeses, such as Danish Blue, goat's or mould-ripened cheese, as they occasionally contain Listeria. Listeria infection is rare. Symptoms include signs of flu such as a high temperature and general aches and pains, and it could cause a miscarriage or severe illness in the newborn baby.
# Avoid raw or undercooked meats such as parma ham or rare steak and unwashed vegetables or salads, which carry a higher risk of toxoplasmosis - a parasitic illness that often shows no symptoms but can sometimes cause birth defects.
# UK authorities also advise avoiding liver during pregnancy. Although a very rich source of B vitamins and iron, liver can contain excessively high levels of vitamin A, which are potentially damaging to the baby.
I was addicted to brie when I was pregnant so I really missed it (funnily enough though in the last 10 years I've not wanted it so much), Philadelphia is fine - have you tried spreading it onto a salt & vinegar crisp, it's the only way to eat Philli !
I hope its OK cause I'm 31 weeks and have ate it a few times. haven't been sick r anything. how slow is that Stevie one below who has eating everything and anything when she was pregnant. It not a diet its safe eating so u don't get food poisoning and end up with u a the baby being sick. and by the way u r always supposed to eat healthy when pregnant to give ur baby the best start. sorry to go on and good luck with ur baby.
Dont think you should be eating any soft cheese, but then every now and then they change the rules of what is safe and what is not, the best thing is not to panic and ask your midwife, health visitor or GP they will give you the correct information.
Congratulations and best luck on your pregnancy and motherhood.
Yes this is ok because its been pasturised. Its the fancy cheeses that are served old that you shouldn't eat because they have bacteria on them. I can remember being the same way about you and I freaked out because i ate tuna before i found out i shouldn't. Dont kick yourself because you ate cream cheese you'll be ok and CONGRATS on the baby!
Philadelphia cheese is fine - it's the other soft cheeses, like brie that you need to avoid.
this is fne cos its pasturised the soft cheeses your not allowed is stilton and such like...good luck
it is classed as soft cheese. ask your doctor if you're not sure.
I love it on toast or crackers. A sprinkle of sea salt and black pepper and I'm in heaven, hmmmmmmm.
yep - joo joo and the others are right..... as long as it's been pasteurised, u will be ok... same goes for things like mayonnaise.
