Hi! My name is Courtney, I'm 14. I've been wanting a Pomeranian cream colored puppy for a long time and I finally found the exact one I wanted. It was from an ad in the paper, he is so adorable and I have way MORE than enough money to buy him ($350) he is up to date on shots and worming and trained on puppy pads already! It all sounds so great and I'm ready to get him and my parents agree.
My question: Do you think he will NEED to be "fixed" even if he won't be around other pups?
By the way, I know it's going to be a ton of work, I'm aware of everything like that. Thanks!

The benefits to fixing your dog: 1. You will reduce hormone levels (even without other dogs around, his hormone levels will still be around. 2. You reduce the chance of him accidentally breeding a female.
I have my pomeranian still intact, and he's very "male"-ish, including marking his territory, etc. Sometimes I consider neutering him, but I have an idea of breeding him later.
If I could do it over as a puppy I probably would have had him neutered, but his personality is too much in him being intact. Definately, if I were you, I would neuter him.
BTW. Pomeranians are absolutely lovely animals, I got mine 3 years ago from a breeder for Christmas. We looked extensively at various breeds and decided we ADORE him. Check out the puppy and make sure he is in a proper place where he appears happy and healthy. If the other dogs around act aggressive, I'd deinately go to a different place and get a different dog! The breeding is a big deal, but if you like him, go for it!
<333 Mine is a lovely orange/cream colored boy, with a soft pink nose instead of the black one most have. :) Good luck with yours!!
Yes he absolutely will NEED to be neutered. Regardless of whether he will be around other dogs or not, he will begin marking territory by lifting his leg and peeing on everything. This is why it is recommended that males be neutered by 6 months of age. An intact (un-neutered) male can still smell a female in heat miles away! This is constant and unnecessary frustration that you should not put him through. He could also develop testicular cancer later in life if not neutered.
Yes he should be neutered. Intact males tend to run away/roam when they smell a female in heat and they can smell it for a mile or more. Also, it will prevent sex aggressive behavior, territorial marking and testicular cancer.
The only reason to have an intact dog is for showing or breeding.
Your pom doesn't need to be fixed, but for best results everyone (that includes professional trainers and vets) highly suggests that you do get your pom fixed. Why? Because, though getting fixed can be expensive, cuts out HUNDREDS of health problems your puppy my get. Not just that, lets say your pom is around another female that isn't fit and they are both past puberty (which is around six months) and he gets onto her, you CAN'T pull them apart. You have to wait until they are finished. For best results and for any caring and serious owner, you should get him fixed.
It's a good idea to fix him. You don't want him to pee all over your house to mark his territory. Also, getting him fixed is a lot safer for him because he will be healthier. He also won't run after females in heat (females who aren't fixed). He will be a lot easier to handle this way and you will both be happier for it.
Good luck :)
yes! It is very very very important that you neuter your puppy. Although you may have no intention of letting him around females in heat, chances are,w hen he is older, he will find one. If your dog gets loose, he could impregnate a female, because male dogs are attracted to female dogs when they are in heat.
Also a neutered dog is easier to handle. They are more focused on you, and have less wanderlust. it is also healthier for him, neutered dogs are said to live longer lives.
VERY IMPORTANT neutering him will be better for him health wise, it will keep him from marking things around the house, and will just make him a better dog all around...good luck enjoy your new dog
he still has to be fixed because when he is around other dogs they will bark at him because they smell that the dog is not fixed and they dont
like that and also the dog might have problems because he is not fixed I think have fun with your dog!
I think even if he won't be around other pups, its still a good idea. But its your decision in the end.
It's always a good idea to get your dog fixed-just in case.
