You should give the mother plenty of goats milk with her puppy food that she should be eating, this will help replace the calcium she lost.
When the puppies are 3-4 weeks old they can have soft canned puppy food & then slowly move them up to the dry kibble.
I am here to help your dogs, not to be rude, but if you or your friend have no clue what to even feed, then you should probably have her fixed after this litter.
Are they 4 weeks, 8 weeks, or somewhere in between? There's a huge difference in what the pups eat at 1 month and 2 months, and diet changes pretty much week to week at this age.
And saying their your friends pups and then yours is rather conflicting.
Ask your vet because I know backyard breeders like yourself don't have breeding mentors.
There are so many dogs being killed in shelters everyday because there are not enough homes for them yet your ignorantly adding to the numbers. For every animal that dies in a shelter, there is a HUMAN somewhere RESPONSIBLE for its death.
You want what's best for the dogs and pups ... get that dog spayed for God's sake.
Until 21-24 days- the pups will live on their mommies milk.
After their 24th day and until their 35th day- you must gradually move them to eating other foods. The best is Baby dog food of a reputed brand- crushed and ground and mixed with lukewarm water- fed thrice a day. You may initially have to feed by hand. Also in addition to this- milk (10-20 ml diluted with 60 ml of water)- is to be given thrice a day in very small quantities.
By their 35th day they should be adapted to this diet. After the 35th day- for the next two months- you can follow the same meal (crushed dog food dissolved in lukewarm water- thrice a day & diluted milk- twice a day).
If you are a believer that milk is bad (which it is not trust me)- then chicken soup is the best alternative. Say 1/4 a packet dissolved in say 50-60 ml of water - thrice a day.
Since they are poms- the quantities of the crushed dog food can be much lesser.
Recommended dog foods: Royal Canin Small Dog (Puppy), Bento Kronen Small Breed (Puppy-3 Months), Flint River Ranch (Small Dog) (Upto 5 Months old), Pedigree Puppy (Beef and Milk).
Your friend's pom just had pups...yet YOU need to know what to feed them and YOU love YOUR pups ....Hmmmmm...
At least dont lie about it...
What you need to do...is get your butt to the vet, along with pups and "mommy". They should be able to tell you...
And there is a world of difference between puppies that are one month vs. two months
At & months old you should change from puppy food to adult food. At best you should feed dogs fresh meat, starting at36 weeks
what did your vet say? breeding mentor?
just give them regular puppy food or soak the mums bikkies in warm water until they are soft enough for them to eat!!! my dog has recently been mated and i cant wait till she has her babies!! she is such a great mum. congrats lol
