I have a prayer service to do for gr12 religion. It isn't a p.s. other than that it has prayers and bible readings, but is more of a class presentation. Anywho, the course is about social justice. Our topic must be a very specific one and relate to social justice. We must also include a class activity (ex. if we were doing environmental problems, an activity would be picking up garbage), as well as write a letter to an organization that deals with the specific issue.
After a bit of researching I came across Jena 6, and Guantanomo Bay. I'm just having a bit of trouble thinking of an activity for the class or finding an organization I could contact that deals with J.6, I know Amnesty International is with G.
I thought it would be interesting if I could find an issue that deals with children, and maybe as an activity have the class write letters to them, like a pen pal?
I'd like to do something different and yet interesting. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please and thank you. :)

Wow.. be careful. If you're dealing with children you could easily step on the toes of some parents with those topics. Remember, not all people of a particualr religion believe the same way.
Organization dealing with J6 is the ACLU, Jesse Jackson, and the NAACP. Your local chapter of the NAACP is where I would start finding information. But don't forget that there is another side to the story. I don't know who is representing the school district or the kids who strung up the dummy (or whatever - I don't bother too much with the news of the day anymore).
I just did a social justice prayer service. We looked at the possibilities of justice and peace for our future. We talked about thinking globally while acting locally. We talked about taking it one person at a time, doing one small thing towards our idea of justice, rather than looking at it is a HUGE job.
Check out the Unitarian Universalist church near you for more info on this kind of thing. They do a LOT of church-based social work, and two of their six beliefs talk about justice for everyone.
