I was diagnosed with glucose of 97 against the threshold 100. I was told to be on pre-diabetes. My question - what steps I can take so that I wont have diabetes in near future? i am 40 years old and of Asian race.

I'm not trying to push anything on you. I just want to help people. Plexus was first designed to help people with diabetes! Now it helps with so much more! It balances your blood sugar, increases energy, helps with sleep, and much more. If you are willing to also try this please let me know. Also I don't just tell people about it, I'm also on it and it's completely changed my life!
You will probably get full on diabetes anyway! When we hit menopause all our hormones go on rampage and we have all these other health issues.
Eat low carb food plan such as phase 2 of either Atkins or South Beach. Both plans are in inexpensive paperback books! Both call for common every day foods, not exotic stuff we wouldn't buy ordinarily.
Exercise: walk as fast as you can for at least an hour every day in addition to your housework or gardening.
Yes, you can still have occasional cheat treats!! Not too often, and not a full serving of them.
when the doctor says to take meds, do it!! No more problem than treating asthma or any other problem.
Soak one tea spoonful of Methi (fenugreek) in water for twelve hours. Eat it in the early morning daily. You will never have diabetes throughout your life.
Or you can add fenugreek leave in your food preparations. It will reduce the sugar level.
Having a blood sugar of 97 does not mean you have pre-diabetes. People with pre-diabetes have blood sugars between 100-125, so you are right on the cusp. Also, it's important to make sure the glucose number you got is accurate. The threshold of 100 for a diagnosis of pre-diabetes is what healthcare professionals call a "fasting glucose." Your level of 97 could've been high if you ate or drank anything other than water within 8 hours before you tested your blood sugar.
The best way to prevent pre-diabetes or diabetes is to take some steps towards living a healthier lifestyle. If you're a smoker, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to try to quit smoking. If you're not, improving your diet and exercise will help to prevent diabetes. Doing aerobic exercise, like walking/running, swimming, biking, or dancing, for 30 minutes 3-4 days per week is the recommended amount by the American Diabetes Association. As far as your diet goes, try to cut out any drinks that have sugar in them (soda, juices) and replace them with water. Eating more whole grains, nuts, berries, and yogurt may also help to prevent diabetes.
Eat healthy foods, begin exercising regularly, manage stress, sleep well
Try adding cinnamon to ur drinks, and also check out some herbal teas
Low carbohydrate diet and at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. Even going for a 30 minute walk is enough to be considered daily exercise. It doesn't have to be some kind of major work out routine. It just needs to be your body in motion.
Eliminate all meat and dairy from your diet, eat lots of veggies, beans, fruit.
Exercise 30-60 minutes a day.
People used to think you could head off diabetes by controlling your blood sugar. But these days the thinking is that type 2 diabetes is like a time bomb in your body and it s going to go off when it goes off.
Either way could be right, and either way it would benefit you to work on your blood sugar control. That means diet (low carb) and regular exercise, and measuring it once in a while with a glucometer. Your glucomter will tell you what foods affect you most--like for instance I can have half a potato and it doesn t show up but the same amount of rice will spike my blood sugar off the chart. We re all different.
I don t know how Asians do without rice, either East Asians or Indians/Pakistanis/etc. All their diets are based on rice, and you would do best to cut the stuff out altogether, or at least eat just a little and only with meals (protein and fat slow down the absorption of carbohydrates).
Diet and exercise work together much better than either does alone. And exercise doesn t necessarily mean sweating at the gym, it could be walking or riding a bicycle for an hour 3-4 time a week.
Good luck!
That's a very high reading. You better make some major life style changes immediately or you won't live to see 50.
