It's basically the equivalent of legal insurance -- they cover a lot of simple things for a flat monthly or annual fee -- and for people who have no other legal resources, they're not a bad choice.
Different companies and programs offer different plans -- which provide different levels of service for different rates.
I am a Pre-Paid Legal independent associate. Let me say that Pre-paid is a national company traded on the NYSE. We serve the US, & most of Canada. In my personal experience, I had opportunity to use the service. I was looking to take some study courses online, & the company never sent me anything at all. No contract, no books, brochures, nothing. Our only corespondance was email. They told me they had arranged a student loan for me. They told me that I would still have to repay the loan when I told them to cancel. One phone call to my provider law firm, & about two weeks later, the whole situation had disappeared. I can keep the service a long while on the savings. It's great having this service, & getting paid (promptly) as an associate for keeping it.
I am an independent associate for prepaid legal. It is legal insurance so to speak. You can use them for any legal situation, or if you are not sure if a situation is legal, you can ask them that too. People have used them for things as small as dry cleaning disputes, all the way to criminal disputes. Many people on here who are going to answer you are uneducated about the company and service. I can give oyu more information if you would like!
