choose both. . .loose powder is to set the foundation and pressed powder is to use for touchups. btw, powder is not to be used alone. . .only to set foundation. if its used alone, it causes dry skin and causes your skin to age faster.
Pressed powder is more sheer while loose powder provides more coverage, mostly because you can build up more loose powder in a brush than you can pressed powder. It really all comes down to personal preferences on which one to pick. I like loose powder because it does a better job at filling in fine lines and provides more of an "airbrushed" look (pressed powder lends more of a "natural" look).
pressed powder is the kind of powder that is hard- it is compact. loose powder is like taking pressed powder and crushing it (this is a bad comparison but think of grains of sand- all loose) with loose powder it can be hard to get the right amount on ur brush- u usually end up putting too much on so id choose pressed
I can't tell you why there are two different products but I can say I use loose powder b.c the pressed powder is harder to get out of the compact and it usually breaks anyway so i prefer loose powder, its sometimes messier on the go but it is easier to use...

If applied correctly loose power sets your makeup quite well...Pressed powder tends to go on too thick.
