I worked as a nurse.most of my career i worked in terminal wards. So don't think i, m just a bleeding heart with no experience of pain or death.
I just lost a friend last month to cancer.she had fought this disease for 22 years. at one point about 15 years ago they sent her home and told her to put things in order, cause she wouldn't last the year.she rallied and went on to finish raising her kids for the next 15 years.what if she had decided that she should just give up. and euthanasia was readily available?on her last day she was at home surrounded by friends and family ,she was weak and sleepy but not in noticeable pain. she held every ones hand in turn and smiled then she just closed her eyes and left us.It wasn't horrible ,just sad .
i have another friend with stage 4 cancer of the brain.3mos ago they said she had 2 weeks at the most .shes still here and she,s hanging on.there is even some improvement.her brother has been caring for her and now new treatment is helping her.
in the beginning she had family members who just wanted to put her in a home and divide up her stuff. What if they had had the option of euthanasia?
I guess my point is who gets to decided whether my life is worth living or not? how do we keep greedy selfish family from putting down their parents so they don't have to spend their inheritance on health care and hospital bills?
who decides what is considered life quality?
youd be surprised how many people believe that the mentally ill or the physically and mentally handicapped would all be better off dead.It would lift a great burden from society to put these poor people out of their misery.
I do not feel that way but many do.legalizing euthanasia even to deal with terminal disease would be to possibly open the door to legal genocide.
On a personal level, Im not and will never be condemming of the person who because of great horrible pain or debilitating disease chooses to end their life. I am against making it where others can make that choice for them.
Pro because a person who has no hope of a cure should be able to make that decision. My sister just died a long and painful death from cancer. She wanted to die but had to suffer before she died. It was one of the hardest things I have had to go thru and can only imagine the pain she was in.
I am pro.i think it is strange that a badly injured animal will be put to death against his will yet when i human who is suffering imensely and give consent to assisted suicide they arent allowed to(not comparing humans to animals.just an analogy).these people who are against it i think would change their tune very quickly if they were unable to move and in pure agony.at the end of the day it should be up to the individual themselves.being pro euthanasia isnt taking anything away from you or me but to someone in agony and who life is a living hell it can be an escape.i am sure in a lot of cases their families cant bear to see them in such pain and suffering aswell.
I've decided that if I had to be in a coma on a heart-lung machine I want my relatives to switch it off. It's unnatural to keep something that's basically dead, alive. If I stay alive after they turn it off, I will take it as a sign from the Lord. Then they can do what they want.
Also old people who are just lying in the beds alone - a lot of families tend to forget their old - and are not leading a quality life.
Life, to me, is about quality and enjoyment. If that is not there, why bother (am I being fatalitic?).
I hope you get clarity, it's quite a difficult one.
pro but only if that's what the person really wants and does not have any other means to commit suicide.(like has to live for decades paralized from the neck down)If someone just wants to die cause he is tired of life then he should just please go and kill himself on his own time.Euthanasia should never be a thing like putting down a dog. It's a suicide.
I think it's everyone's right to decide about their own suicide but don't call it anything else.
We put down pets everyday because we love them and we don't want them to be in pain. Why should our loved ones who are humans have to suffer needlessly?
I don't think many people can look into the eyes of a person who knows they are dying and are in so much pain that death would be a blessing. If you truly loved that person, in my opinion, you would grant them what they wanted.
Dying a long painful death or having an injection and drifting off peacefully, which one would you choose?
why is accepting death not a personal freedom? why is the state getting involved with something that is a personal, private, and yes spiritual choice??? We should tell the State to get their noses out of something so intrinsically private.

In certain cases I am pro.

I am for it but, only for terminal illnesses.

Yes I am Pro. I feel it is a right if you are terminally ill and suffering.
Dr. K. got a bad rap, he was helping people, not killing them.
