I'm all for them within reason. You find them in foods like yogurt, kefir, fermented saurkraut and kimchi....you don't need to spend gobs of money on them.
Are soil based ones harmful? Generally? No, some companies like to market them as if they will save you from every illness known to man which isn't true, don't believe the hype.
I'm definitely a believer in probiotics. The research is definitely out there to show how gut flora can impact a wide variety of our body's systems. Having a healthy balance in bacteria can improve digestion, immune system health, and even just your overall feeling of wellness. As for soil-based probiotics, I'm not sure.
