I've had my puppy for about 4 1/2 months now & he's been eating the same hard food for the past month or so & just today, he has started getting diarrhea. He's been getting into the trash lately, but I don't leave old, thrown away food in my trash can. Only papers etc. What could be causing his diarrhea & is there anyway I can cure it.

If he keeps being pooey over the next 24 hours take him to the vet. Make sure he doesn't get dehydrated.
Be careful it could be Parvo virus.
Just make sure he is still eating and drinking water normally, not doing those things is a sign of illness worse then diarrhea.... it's not uncommon for puppies to have stool problems since they're still growing and developing and getting into bad things but if it's persists more then a day or 2 then you'll need to see a vet. Try putting some pedialyte in his water to help with dehydration and make him feel better. You can also cook up some plain chicken and rice and mix it in his food, this helps make stool more solid.
Have you dewormed him? Deworming must be done every 2 months until the dog is a year old and then subsequently 3 months once.
Alternately- he could have eaten a bunch of papers- or waste which is causing the diarrohoea.
Try giving it a day but if it persists- then please do take him to the vet.
If he goes outside, then there's a good possibility that he's getting into something that way. Most puppies will chew on grass and things of that nature and, of course, this is introducing something new into his diet. In this case, there's two things you can do: stop letting him go outside or just wait a few weeks and the diarrhea should go away.
I hope this helps.
The dog is probably eating something out of the trash, which is causing the runs. Keep it out of the trash by scolding him virbally and a jerk on its leash. Training!!!!!!
probably rotten stuff in the garbage, or you need to change the size of the hard food. Also try adding some Bran with warm watter ontop of the food, i did it when the same thing happened to my dog, and it worked.
the list of what caused his diarrhea goes on endlessly. did he get into the garbage, did you change is dog food? If he doesn't have worms, he will likely be fine.
he probably ate some grass or drank more water than usual or if you've been to the beach he drank some salt water. don't worry about it, if it continues for 3 days and his behaviour changes then worry but it's normal for it to happen sometimes
he could have worms or another kind of parasite, or he could have eaten something abnormal, whether out of the garbage can or not. make sure he drinks plenty of water.
