Hola bueno primero que nada,

me topo muchas veces con esta pregunta y lo primero que hago es leer todas las respuestas, y por sorpresa me encuentro que un 90% de las respuestas son incorrectas, en este caso solo alex tokyo te dio una buena respuesta, pero los que dijeron que nigthwis, epica, etc, eso no es rock gotico.

Bueno la musica que escuchan los goticos prinsipalmente es el rock gotico, deathrock, darkwave, electro goth.

Yo no soy gotico, pero me gusta la musica, por ejemplo bandas como:

Sisters of mercy, Bauhaus, Siouxie, The cure, Alien sex fiend, Sex gang children, Christian death, London after midnigth, Specimen, Narsilion, Joy division, Human drama, The Cruxshadows, Faith and the Muse, Diary of dreams, Das ich, Blutengel, Hocico, Apoptygma Berzerk, y muchas mas.

Otra cosa, no confundan el rock gotico con el metal gotico, no quiero decir que un gotico no escuche metal goth, pero prinsipalmente se inclina mas hacia el rock gotico.

Opino que el metal gotico y el doom, no es musica gotica, si no simplemente un subgenero mas del metal.

Ah lo olvidaba, no había leido los detalles de la pregunta, bueno me canso de aclarar esto pero lo are de igual manera.

Esa gente de la cual hablas, que le gustan los vampiros, que se maquilla, gusto por lo oscuro, se viste de negro, me suena como ha dark, lo cual no es gotico, un dark y un gotico no es lo mismo, te lo resumire ya que me da flojera aclarar esto tantas veces, un dark, son sujetos que se dicen ser goticos, pero fueron influenciados por la television e internet, o sujetos que dicen ser darks, y dicen que ser dark es un moviemiento aparte del goth, el cual tiene una nueva ideologia y forma de ver la vida, la cual no conocen muy bien, y se basan en el satanismo, gusto por el black y musica heavy, segun ellos otra cultura, pero para mi es una nueva moda, al igual que los emos.
