With empiricism there is only one assumption and that is that our senses do not lead us astray. (maybe for certain individuals it does, but collectively speaking they do not). If you're skeptical of even this very basic assumption then you're forced into contemplating outrageous metaphysical problems. Maybe nothing exists except for our consciousness; all you are is just a brain floating inside a vat with a very powerful imagination. But of course this kind of radical skepticism gets us nowhere. If you were a radical skeptic then nothing could be real, including any metaphysical claims involving God.
Edit: Of course logic exists...Logic is a sort of formal language used to critically evaluate certain claims. But logic is eventually grounded in some sort of truth. Logical claims come with truth-values, a claim can be either true or false. The way you verify the truth-value is by looking (with the senses) at the real world.
I did not. I take it as an axiom. Axiom 1: Senses perceive reality.
If you don't include this one, then any further investigation of reality is impossible, and it is pointless to have arguments about it. Even more so since you might be arguing with figments of your own imagination.
Sense of logical and critical thinking.
Can you name for me one single piece of verifiable knowledge that cannot be detected by some sense or another?
Well, rationally I am conscious therefore I exist, I am sensing things therfore a source of stimuli exists beyond myself. My senses help me interpret this stimuli and my brain helps me to evaluate it.
