Hey everyone,
I'm entering a photo contest and would very much appreciate your honest opinion on the photo linked below. Thanks very much.

Update:Thanks for all the quick responses. To clear some things up, the contest is open to any photo now and the picture will be looked at as a whole.
The photo is meant to convey anguish and depression. I was thinking of retaking the middle picture with the person holding a bright light but still with around the same mood. Any more insight would be great. Thanks!

I like the graininess you used with the black and white to capture hope & despair in the big picture. The smaller pictures look much too forced and like something out of one of my sociology textbooks. I think with the hands over the face it is showing even more despair and sorrow without even using the face & it's expressions which is even more powerful. If you have time if you really want to win I would play w/ perspective and lighting contrasts with this shot even more. Maybe retake it from a spot above the person or looking up from floor level but have him use the same expression or pose. Play around with it a little. But this is a solid photo just not sure it could win as is against tougher competition.
I think it looks 'muddy'. It could use adjustment in brightness and contrast and maybe 'levels'. From the small pics above, I take it you meant it this way on purpose. And I don't mean to argue with a matter of personal style. But if it was me, I'd adjust the bottom picture at least, to bring out some texture in the shirt, and more detail in the face and hands, just for a little more visual interest.
Black and white photos don't convey much of anything for me. What exactly do you want the photo to say to someone who's just passing by other than that guys tired?
This ones not it. You look depressed and sad. It is like your saying something like," oh God what am I goin to do, help me I'm so alone and depressed". Try again. Or is this what you are trying to portray? If thats the case then you did a good job.
If you're going to go through all that agony over a photo contest, for pity's sake, don't ever consider getting married!
It would help if we knew whatever criteria the contest might have.
Contrast is bad, unless that dark moody bit is part of the criteria.

I donno what its for but its alright i guess.
It seems to have a lot of meaning.
myabe if you make one of the pictures in colour, or have a contradictory image (happy) in colour.
As I said, i don't know what its for, but good luck and well done!
I think you ought to choose one our of four that you took.
You manipulated it far too much. Restore it back to normal print, I think.
you need to take a breath taking picture i am afriad that will not cut it
