I have a feeling my husband is trying to trick me. Is it true that you have to do something to a digital camera in order to convert it to be able to use rechargable batteries? This is a Nikon digital camera from the mid 90s. Thanks.

Digital cameras will either use a proprietary rechargeable battery, or it'll take some common battery (like AAs). If it's one of the proprietary ones, then you have to use those (there might be some after-market ones out there). If it's AAs, then of course, you can use regular alkalines, lithiums, or rechargeable AAs (recomended!).
There are some "battery packs" out there than plug into your camera's battery compartment and runs a small cable to an external battery pack. It's probably a good idea to stay away from those.
There's no way to really "convert" something from one type to another. And, if your camera is from the mid 90s, then it might be time for a new one.. the technology has moved quite a bit since then. =]
It does not appear like there presently are any rechageable AA lithium ion batteries. I suppose it's quite often in view that that lithium ion cells have a miles larger voltage (three.6 volts) than AA batteries (one million.five volts). I suppose a few cameras that take AA batteries even have rechargeable lithium ion battery packs however the ones packs are designated to the digital camera. Two matters I suppose you would do. Buy the maximum ability NiMH batteries you'll discover ( 2900maH). Or if you have already got a number of NimH batteries, cost all of them up after which making use of a virtual meter learn the voltages on them. Find a couple that has the maximum voltages and use the ones. You would possibly discover that pair final somewhat longer.
