I currently own a spyder electra, 2009. I used to play airsoft all the time, but i've grown out of that and now i like paintball better. looking to start a paintball club in college, and whenever i'm home i go to local fields with friends. I'm thinking about selling the marker and keeping my gas tank and hopper, but i don't know what gun i should buy. I'm very frustrated with the spyder because it always needs fixing and maintenance, i like the idea of an electric gun, but i don't want to throw down $600+ on a dye marker. Speedball is my favorite, but i spend some time in the woods as well, I'm looking for something that performs well and WON'T BREAK ALL THE TIME!
-I've got an electric halo hopper so it won't have much trouble keeping up with however fast i'm shooting.
-I'm not interested in modifying a 98 custom or similar, I want it sturdy but not bulky
-My price range is flexible, but i'd like to spend $200-$300 on just the marker itself.
Thanks!
Update:The new tippmann crossover seems awesome, but i heard the gun is made for HPA and I only use c02

in order to break away from the Tippmann 98 Custom series style guns, you will have to move to HPA. There are no good guns that are speedball related that can use Co2. I recommend getting a cheap 68/3000 tank using the money from selling the electra and the tank, and getting something like a Planet Eclipse Etek, any model, i own the Etek 4 and it is built like a tank, altho it is as loud as one too.
If you have issues with your Electra, you'll have the same issues with Azodins.
Gog Envy (electro) and Enmey (mechanical) can both use co2 just fine. Technically, so can the Gog Extcy, but it shoots a little faster than the Envy, and higher rates of fire don't bode well for co2 - increases the chances of sucking in liquid co2, which causes problems, unless the tank is anti-siphoned. Autocockers can also use co2 just fine, although there aren't many (if any) new ones floating around until the Empire Ressurection comes out. Cheap ones are the WGP Trilogy line, and many can be found used (check craigslist).
Tippmann Crossover can use co2. Tippmann recommends a remote line with co2 use, but getting the tank anti-siphoned is just as good (do NOT use an anti-siphoned co2 tank with a remote line, it will defeat the purpose).
How is the Electra breaking down? Specific examples, if you can. Spyders can be very reliable, just have to understand a few things about them.
1) Get the co2 tank anti-siphoned; any paintball store can do it, or order the parts and visit any airsmith. It's a simple install, where a curved brass tube acts like a snorkel inside the tank. Greatly reduces the amount of liquid co2 that can escape the tank (liquid co2 can freeze o-rings, seize internals, & break balls). Doesn't cost much, and you'll notice a big difference.
2) Halo is a force-fed loader, which can actually cause problems on spyders by pushing balls past the detents, causing double-feeds, which causes chops in the barrel.
3) Use rec-grade paintballs (or mid-grade). Don't use low-grade anything, cuz it all sucks, and don't use high-grade, cuz they're too brittle for spyders (high operating pressures are not gentle on paint).
4) Don't use too much oil, just 2-3 drops on the bolt & striker o-rings. Too much oil won't cause operating problems, but the excess will be shot out with the paint, affecting accuracy.
5) Always wipe bolt & striker clean after a day of play, and apply oil. If the gun has been sitting unused for a month or more, clean/oil it again.
When you've got disorders with your Electra, you'll have the same problems with Azodins. Gog Envy (electro) and Enmey (mechanical) can both use co2 just great. Technically, so can the Gog Extcy, nevertheless it shoots a little rapid than the Envy, and better rates of fireplace do not bode good for co2 - raises the chances of sucking in liquid co2, which causes issues, unless the tank is anti-siphoned. Autocockers may use co2 simply pleasant, despite the fact that there don't seem to be many (if any) new ones floating round until the Empire Ressurection comes out. Low priced ones are the WGP Trilogy line, and lots of can also be located used (investigate craigslist). Tippmann Crossover can use co2. Tippmann recommends a far off line with co2 use, however getting the tank anti-siphoned is solely as just right (do not use an anti-siphoned co2 tank with a far off line, it'll defeat the reason). How is the Electra breaking down? Targeted examples, if that you may. Spyders may also be very dependable, simply have got to realize just a few things about them. 1) Get the co2 tank anti-siphoned; any paintball store can do it, or order the materials and seek advice from any airsmith. It can be a easy set up, the place a curved brass tube acts like a snorkel inside the tank. Widely reduces the quantity of liquid co2 that can escape the tank (liquid co2 can freeze o-rings, grab internals, & damage balls). Doesn't cost a lot, and you'll observe a tremendous difference. 2) Halo is a force-fed loader, which can actually rationale problems on spyders with the aid of pushing balls past the detents, causing double-feeds, which motives chops within the barrel. 3) Use rec-grade paintballs (or mid-grade). Do not use low-grade something, cuz it all sucks, and don't use excessive-grade, cuz they are too brittle for spyders (excessive running pressures are usually not smooth on paint). 4) do not use too much oil, simply 2-3 drops on the bolt & striker o-rings. Too much oil will not motive working problems, but the excess will probably be shot out with the paint, affecting accuracy. 5) consistently wipe bolt & striker clean after a day of play, and practice oil. If the gun has been sitting unused for a month or extra, easy/oil it once more.
Alright, lets get one thing straight. Never. Ever. EVER. Use Co2 with any paintball gun, especially with an electronic one. Secondly, do you have a good mask? If not, buy one. The mask is more important than the gun. Now, onto the main part of my answer.
You want to spend $600 or less on a paintball gun? I can recommend a few but you have to do the research on them by yourself.
Empire
-Axe $400
-Mini approx. $350
Dangerous Power
-G4 $300
-G5 $330
Dye
-Rail $250
-Reflex $500
Empire
-Etha $400
-Etek 3 $??
-Etek 4 $500
Alien
$500
Then you can always do a GoG, etc etc.
If you want a better gun but can't afford it, buy it used! Used guns are actually not bad at all, as long as they are in decent condition.
Hope this helps!
i did some research on the paintball guns i found and they do seem a little pricy the only thing is you gotta keep in mind if its great quality its worth the money i dont own any but i rent at the fields and ive tried all different kinds but by far the delta elite mp5 has a great range of shooting
azodin blitz, its reliable and amazing!
