there are a couple of different options:

on those ships that Have the Freestyle machines, you can get a soda only drink package which comes with the chip embedded cup. otherwise, it is fountain soda only( no cans) available at Bars/lounges.

the next package up adds bottled water and non alcoholic drinks( virgin daiquiris, etc)

soda by the can runs about $3 each with the gratuity. these can be found at all bars, in the MDR and in your cabin.( note: items in the cabin 'fridge' are NOT covered under ANY beverage package. same with room service deliveries.)

when you purchase the drink package on board you are handed the chipped mug if applicable. otherwise your sea pass card either gets a sticker or is embedded with the package so you just show that when you order drinks.. you may or may not be given a zero balance receipt to sign. if you have pre purchased it before boarding all that info is supposed to be on your sea pass( but bring a copy of the recipe anyway) on Anthem class ships( the ones with a different se pass system.. magic bands like Disney uses) the cup will be in your room if you pre purchased it but you can get drinks sooner( the cabins do not become accessible until 1 pm) by showing your info a any bar or roving server

Packages MAY NOT BE SHARED, and if caught , they can revoke it, charge you for every drink you have had thus far and even kick you off the ship at the next port.

Right up there with theater prices. You can buy a soda package but you have to drink a lot to make it pay off. Drink the stuff you don't have to pay extra for.
