Warning one is that this is a 20 year old vehicle. Now for the good side: these are solid vehicles that with proper maintenance will reach in excess of 250K miles. Parts and service for this vehicle is readily available. I still run my '70 300SEL, '71 280 SE and they are still an amazing ride.
If it's a '92, it won't be a S430 or S500. Before the '94 model year, the numbers came first before the letters and the S430 wasn't made until the 2000 model year, with the introduction of the W220 chassis.
In 1992, the V8 models were the 400SE, and 500SEL. 1992 was also the year of the W140 chassis introduction (the predecessor to the W220).
The 1990's were a rough year for Mercedes, and that is not their best effort
its a gas hog, and very expensive to maintain
the A/C will go out any day on you, and that alone will run $1400 to repair
If you don't mind spending $4,000-$5,000 a year to keep it on the road - go for it
but for that kind of scratch, you could be rolling in a brand new 750I
Oh, yes. The 500-SEL is the best vehicle you can get. Those cars run great even when they have 250,000 miles on them. If I were you, I wouldn't pay more than $7500. But even if you pay 8, you still have a great car.
Well, the S-class Benz is great car, but why do you want a Mercedes that old. Besides, if anything, you should be looking at a 2007 or newer S class
the sel 500 is the top of the range with regular servicing they are reliable as old pair of boots. expect things to break or fall off. but not as quick as some cars. if you have to buy the the engine parts from mb they are not cheap as they are ex germany. but there are other companies that help. www. adsitco.com
old car will cost much money .....
