i have a 2003 chevrolet s10 crew cab and when i floor it going up hilly terrain like highway mountains the passing gear kicks in but it seems like i have no power the fastest i can go is 65 MPH it seems like i am setting there with the engine reving up and not going anywhere power is ok on flat roads but on hills i am dead the trans. also seems to jerk a bit but not bad and it has NO lihts on such as service engine soon or anything the vehicle only has 40,000 miles on it but it seems like the more i drive it the less power i have.... i have changed the air filter but from there i am lost... the engine is a 4.3 liter V6 Vortec it should go faster than 65 on hills...

Sounds like your catalytic converter is junk.Usually,it's at around 50,000 miles when this happens though. The insides of the catalytic coverter melt(looks like welding slag). The exhaust gets restricted and the vehicle has no power, especially when you try to pass or go up a hill.Sometimes there will be a rattling noise coming from the converter that sounds like a bucket of rocks.
I completely agree with G M on this one. Only other thing i would recommend, cause I owned a 2001. think about having yout transmission serviced. New fluid and filter. These trucks run so hot to keep emissions down. an ounce of prevention is certainly worth a pound of cure.
