Sand inside a camera is fatal. You might take it to a camera shop and see what it would cost for them to examine it. Unless this is a $500 or more camera, it probably isn't worth fixing and needs to be replaced. If you really like taking cameras to the beach, get a waterproof camera, like the Olympus Tough series. They are also dust (and sand) resistant.
Ever come back from a day at the beach and you find grit in your hair, in your eyes, on your skin, in your teeth, and in places not-to-be-mentioned? Your camera has just had the same experience. Part of the problem is the damp, sticky grit, and not the sand.
If you try to remove the sand and grit, you are most likely to push more of it in. Time for a professional shop to service your camera. I'd avoid Walmart as they'll just shop it out.
The beach isn't a good place for cameras, that's why I always use disposables when i'm on vacation (even if my DSLR is weather sealed). It's one less thing to worry about.
Sorry but in my experience your camera is dead, sand is a difficult customer and the cost for a service engineer to strip it down and remove the sand, put everything back together then guarantee his work, isn't worth the hassle.
It's a tough lesson to learn...sorry
Did you replace the batteries with alkaline ones? That's the minimum requirement. The best is Energizer Lithium.
Why sand? Did you put it down? Did it drop? No use fixing it. It's dead.
It's a goner. Sorry it was a new camera, but your warranty will not fix this kind of issue. It is going to cost more than the value of the camera to fix.
tricky aspect. check out in bing and yahoo. this might help!
