My mum had her second seizure yesterday morning, i witnessed the first siezure and my family were there, but yesterday it was just me, she told me she knew it was going to happen and 2 phone an ambulance and i did, the woman spoke to my mum and the seizure seemed to pass, i was told to ring the doctors so they could investigate, before phoning the doctor i rang my gran as i didnt want to be alone with her because i was scared, then i rang the doctor, i turnt around for a split second and when i turned back, she was a little slouched and i looked at her face (i was terrified it didnt look like her at all) i immediatly started shouting at the doctor on the phone that it was happening then i hung up on him and rang 999.
What i want to know is why her face looked so different she was so unreconisable, i didnt see her face during her first seizure so i was deffiantly not expecting to see that and i know shes going to have more of them but i couldnt sleep last night because all i could see was the way she looked, i think that if i wasnt alone and there was someone else to help i would have been a mess, however i did handle it well and didnt panic as much as the first time, obviously because i had seen it happen before and i was warned before hand

Seizures can affect a person's appearance by causing very abnormal contractions or movements of facial muscles or causing complete muscle relaxation. The eye muscles can also be affected, which can give a person a very blank stare or even cause the eyes to roll upward and make the pupils disappear. Any of these muscle movements might make a person look like a character in a horror movie, but all of it is just superficial - not much different than intentionally trying to make a funny face except that it is involuntary during a seizure.
Are you aware that there are over 40 different types of seizures depending on the cause. Since the causes are so different the way a person responds will also be different to from an all out epileptic caused seizure to what is known as an absence seizure. The reason your mum knew before hand is a type of warning that people get known as an " aura " which can be a certain sound, smell, or anything else that only this person has right before the seizure starts. During her telling you what to do you need to stay as calm as possible. You're getting her added stress by going through a type of panic attack when you should be trying to keep this as a help to her and not a type of event that she might die from. Since you can't seem to get this look and what she goes through off of your mind then you might need to try and talk to a psychologist to try and get through this and other things while trying to help your mum too. When one loved one starts to get a disorder like this older in life and you try to help care for her then it's not surprising that you need help too. Please remember that the decisions you make now will effect the rest of both your lives. Good luck and God Bless
