Which term of the arithmetc sequence 1,4,7 is 88? if u can explain thatll be awesom!
An arithmetic sequence is of the form :
a , (a + d) , (a + 2d) , (a + 3d) , ... , (a + (n -1)d).
where the last term is the n(th) term
First term is 1, so a = 1.
Second term is 4, so a + d = 4, that is, 1 + d = 4, so d = 3.
Last term is 88, so a + (n - 1)d = 88,
that is, 1 + (n - 1)3 = 88
(n - 1)3 = 87
n - 1 = 29
n = 30
So 88 is the 30th term.
1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, 43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58, 61, 64, 67, 70, 73, 76, 79, 82, 85, 88.
88 is the 30th term in the sequence.
If a sequence is algebraic, then the rate is linear. From one to four is a difference of three and you can check that by comparing seven and four. So the rule is add three (sorry this sounds so elementary).
If you want a rule/function: f(x)=3x+1
So you can plug in 88.
88=3x+1
87=3x
x=29
So 88 is the 29th term in this sequence.
