My friend cuts herself. Last night she told me she was throwing up everything she ate and she's bleeding from her legs and stomach. I live in the US and she lives in Portugal. I told her to go to the hospital and she said they would only judge her. Sometimes she shows me her cuts. It's disturbing and I don't want to feel like I've done nothing to stop it. I can't talk her out of it. I think she's gunna hurt herself so much that it kills her. She tried the butterfly project but it didn't work.Update:She won't go get help.. Tell her you're there for her, and would like to talk to her about why she's feeling like this. Tell her you don't want her to be like this, and it upsets you to see her feel this way.

Reassure her that there is the option of getting help, through medication or therapy, and you will help her get through that. Tell her you are there for her no matter what.

She is a self harmer.

Usually they don't want to kill them self's. They do it to feel something.

They are usually emotionally numb people.So in self harming they will at least feel pain.

She as to accept help or nothing can be done.No one can force to treat herself(By Law).

She needs people with her 24/7.

If finally she accepts help,and starts to take medication, that's when she actually needs more supervision.As under the medication they will feel "Strong" enough to commit suicide.

But this is the general case.She is an individual,so as to be assessed and other forms of treatment my work with her.

What you can do,its exactly show her concern.

Be direct,tell her she as people that love her and she is affecting them aswell.

Dont be afraid of being direct.Thats how you deal with self harmers.Never tell her you understand her problem,They usually dont like It.And they are right,we can not understand.

Tell her that they won't judge her. Therapy will make her feel happier and healthier. Even if she says that she doesn't want to be happy , she does. That the reason she hurts herself in the first place. To go to her happy place. Tell her that(if she is catholic or Christian) that's hell I to hell and never be happy. Tell her that you'll miss her, and don't want her to go away.
