complex rational algebraic expressions
2/x + y........x
------------- x -----------
.2/x - y.........x
..... 2 + xy
= ---------------- answer//
.......2 - xy
another possible solution
..2/(x + y)
------------------
....2/(x - y)
.......2..............x - y
= ------------- x --------------
....x + y.............2
......x - y
=--------------- answer//
.....x + y
Dividing a fraction by another fraction is the same as multiplying by the inverse of the denominator.
So, (2 / x+y) / (2 / x-y) is the same as (2 / x+y) muliplied by (x-y / 2) <--- (2 / x-y inverted)
When we multiply the two fractions we get,
(2 / x+y)(x-y / 2) = (2x - 2y) / (2x + 2y)
Divide top and bottom by 2,
x - y / x + y <--- There's your answer.
Question is incorrect due to lack of brackets.
Any attempt at an answer is therefore just a guess.
(x-y)/(x+y)
