It's been going very slow, I can't keep more than 2 programs open at a time and If I have just FireFox open it's still kinda slow. Could it be Viruses or Spy ware? How can I fix it?
There are several primary areas that could be causing your computer to run slow. The most likely reason is that Corruption within your registry keys, registry classes, and registry settings, you have too many programs running behind the scenes and your system is essentially running in circles with its internal processing.
To determine if your system is in fact running slow because of problems in your registry and temp files and then speed up your computer, you will need to run a self diagnostic program called regsitry cleaner. This program is very very useful,it can fix regsitry errors, clean registry remnant, corrupt files and temp files in a few minutes. Then give you a bran-new and high-speed computer. There are collection and comparison of top rated registry cleaner:
The second most common problem is that you have spyware/adware in your computer.Spyware/adware not only pop up ads, collect personal info, but also can hamper your computer's performance. It use system resources and slow your computer down. Detecting and removing the programs will improve system performance.
There can be many causes for a general slowdown of your computer. Some are not necessarily security or virus related. You should check all these items to be sure.
1. Run an updated virus scan.
Or Scan for Viruses online.
Sometimes it is a good idea to run more than one to ensure nothing is missed:
Besides making sure that you have enough memory for your computer make sure that you hard drive is not full if it has very little space left the will slow it down. it always pays to have more than 15 to 20% free hard drive space free.
you can delete any programs that you do not use do a clean disk by right clicking you C drive go to properties and click the clean disk button that should free up some space for you.
A good registry cleaner I use is CCleaner. It's a reliable tool to get rid of worms, trojams, malwares and viruses that affect your pc performances. Free download here http://bitly.com/UrATas
1st of all install an good antivirus program (like AVG,Avast,Norton ect) & check for
1. Spywares,
2. Trojans
3. Viruses,&
other malicious softwares on you computer
Then run DISK CLEANUP on C: drive or , whatever drive inon which your OS is installed.
Also DEFRAGMENT you harddrive from time to time, particularly the system drive (Generally C:)
Go to Start>Run typr "msconfig" without the quotes, click the "services" tab there & uncheck the UNNECESSARY SERVICES. Also click the "start up" tab & uncheck the unnecessary items there, which will BOOST UP YOUR STARTUP time.
Be sure to clean out your cache and delete your cookies. Close any programs and stop any processes you are not using. Sometimes an anti virus program can slow your computer as well. Make sure computer has sufficient memory.
Udate your firewall and scan your coputer in safe mode. After you remove virus trojan, I recommend you use firefox browser. It can prevent viruses such as worm, trojan and etc.The newest official edition of firefox can be downloaded from http://www.mollzia.com/

Might just be a case of RAM overload. Here is my checklist to keep my memory as free as possible:
(RAM) Memory Cleanup
Wallpaper and/or screensaver are full of graphics. They run in the background and consume memory. Set wallpaper and screensaver to blank.
- Review your start menu. Load only that which you need on a daily basis. Load games and such on an as-needed basis.
-
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
cl the icon for the program you wish to remove, then cl Remove.
This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.
- When you are working in a large file, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.)
- Every two weeks, run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, and defrag.
- From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies, delete files (offline files), clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want), click o.k.
- click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)
If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.

1. Run an updated virus scan.

Sometimes it is a good idea to run more than one to ensure nothing is missed:
Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Trend Micro House Call
Symantec Security Check
2. Download CWShredder.
Be sure to update to the latest version.
3. Run the Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...
4. Check this link: http://www.aumha.org/a/noads.php
Do you have parasites?
5. Run Ad-Aware (free version) : http://www.lavasoft.de/
Update if you already have it.
AND
Spybot (free version) : http://www.safer-networking.org/
Update if you already have it.
You may want to use both of these tools to be sure all spyware is gone.
Make sure ALL above tools are updated within the last few days. Do NOT assume recently downloaded/installed tools are up to date.
6. Perform Windows Memory Diagnostic
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
7. Reboot
Search for and delete all files "*.tmp"
Search for all files "temp" Delete the contents of them, do NOT delete the folder.
Go to Control Panel
Click Internet Options
Click "Delete Cookies", click OK, may take a few minutes
Click "Delete Files"
Check "Delete all offline content" click OK, may take a few minutes
Click "Clear History" click Yes, may also take a few minutes
Perform Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"

8. If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
9. Run Defrag.

If you have problems with any of these, reboot to Safe Mode and try them.
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.

10. This may apply if you recently installed Windows XP Service Pack 1:
Heap Algorithm Update for Atypically Large Heap Requests
11. Sometimes a weak CMOS battery can cause various issues including slow, locking as well as other unexplained performance issues.
This is fairly rare but the battery is relatively easy to replace, check your motherboard/computer manual for replacement details.
Usually the battery is a "CR2032" watch battery, about the size of a nickel.
12. This step removed
13. Check this link to identify the running processes and how to stop the unnecessary ones:
Pacman's Portal Start-up Processes
Full List is a good place to start.
Some will suggest to use MSCONFIG to disable running applications.
Start/Run
Type "msconfig" ENTER
Click "Startup" Tab
And uncheck the undesired processes.
While this can work, it is a poor first choice to disable an application.
A problem with this method is some applications will create another instance in the Startup tab, eventually you may have many, all but one unchecked.
Once an item is unchecked in the Startup tab, "Selective Startup" is marked in the General tab.
Ideally "Normal Startup" should be marked in the General tab..
The Start-up tab in MSCONFIG is intended for troubleshooting.
If an application should not be started during boot, the best place to accomplish that is the application itself.
Open the application.
Then look for something like "Settings" or "Options".
Then look for something similar to "Run at boot" or "Load at start-up"
You need to disable it.
If you have problems determining how to disable an application, you may need to contact the application manufacturer directly or at their web site.
14. Go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer, download their hard drive diagnostics and use it to check the integrity of the hard drive.
hope some of this works
