How is this so? Why should I support someone I don't agree with (as far as where he stands on the issues)? Has anyone stopped to think that constantly playing the race card actually fuels the fires of racism instead of putting them out?
Update:and I am saying this because I have seen a few questions and answers on YA that talk about how people who don't vote for him are closet racists. Moreover, I have been called a racist just because I support McCain. This is idiocy at it's finest.

ok, although I do support Obama, I really think that if you don't support him, you shouldn't vote for him. I mean, you should vote for whoever you agree with and whoever is best for the job, regardless of what color you are, or what color he/she is.
Here's another thing that pisses me off, when black people think they have to vote for Obama because he's black. That is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard in my life. I mean, even though Im black, if I agreed with McCain, I would support him. Black people fought and died for hundreds of years to be treated as equals, and now it's almost like they want to use race as a crutch! like we should all vote Obama because he's black and that just makes him automatically worth of the position.
Isn't that basically a sympathy vote?
but ummmm...back to the point. You're not a racist for voting for McCain. people vote for the candidate that best suits their needs.
It doesn't say that you are a racist by any means. And if yes, you have a right to be. I am not American and being in the USA I discovered how mistaken I was about democracy (cause it is fake and it portrays only in mass media to the fair of this or that person in rule), so my illusions are no longer with me. Living here is like a wake-up call or a cold shower to understand why the USA stands apart from different countries. I have a pity for you, dear Americans, cause again this election you have no choice (best among the worst) and I can say that it has been like that for many years already. Probably, making right choices, you will understand why the country is in economic crisis and what to do not to have it in future.
God bless you!
You're only a racist if you use that word that we all know about but don't use. That makes you a racist. I'm not because I don't use that word. You just have a different point of view politically. It has nothing to do with race. He's just a person. Just like Senator McCain.
To some extent, I do agree with you how everyone wants to vote for the man just because he's black. But people have different point of views. Thats why there are two candidates running for presidency. One just happens to be black. If he loses will the half of America be considered racist? What if they are black to? He's just a person.
Who said that if you don't support Obama then you're a racist? If you're a Republican then of course you're not going to support a Democrat regardless of who the nominee is. If you're into 3rd parties then you're out on that one too. If, however, you are a Democrat (specifically a Hillary supporter) and do not support Obama I would definitely question your motives. It wouldn't necessarily mean that you are a prejudicial person, but I would seriously wonder why you would vote any other way or abstain from voting (if you're a Dem) considering what dire straights this country is in and the dire straights many of your fellow Americans are in.
Also, there are a lot of people who do not want to vote for a minority. I think you may be rather young and sheltered and may not realise just how prejudicial many of your fellow Americans are. Trust me, I speak from experience.
That is what they would have you believe, due to Obama and Hillary running on similar platforms. In reality they could not be more different, as Hillary never sat complacently in a racist Church (Trinity) for twenty years. Nor did she funnel 14 million dollars to the convicted felon (Rezko) who helped her purchase a Mansion. And of course she never launched her political career at the home of unrepentant terrorist William Ayers.^
Edit-"liberal italienne"- you could not possibly be more wrong. The assertion by Obama supporters that you are somehow racist if you once supported Hillary and refuse to now support Obama, comes up -dozens- of times a day. Both in questions and answers. In fact "Tboonepickenz" (an Obama supporter) stated so, right above your answer.
And I do not -think- Obama has played the race card, I -know- he has.
When Obama doesn't win, black America will say he lost because white America is racist. They'll fail to recognize that he has no qualifications for the highest office in the land; they'll just lean on the all-too-familiar crutch. When all else fails, play the "race" card.
I agree with you, the harder black America fans the flames of racism, the taller those flames grow. If you want to minimize difference between peoples, it's not wise to constantly highlight those differences.
It is only racist if the reason you are not voting for Obama is because he is black. Otherwise, people have the right to choose who they think has the best values and ideas that match their own. Many people aren't voting for Obama, so this is rediculous, that is as if saying if you don't vote for Clinton you are sexist or if you don't vote for McCain you are racist towards whites. If someone says this to you or anyone else, they are a complete moron and don't understand what the word "racist" means.
I would think it was a pitty if someone didn't vote for Obama just because he is black, because honestly, intellect and motive is far more determinable then race. Race should be one of the last things we look at to determine our vote.
If one's reasons for not supporting Obama are not founded in fact, ideology, or policy, but instead are simple and unarticulate... possibly.
I have no problem with McCain supporters, as long as they truly feel that McCain best represents their beliefs.
And though you are obviously not among that group, you have to admit that there are some people who are unreceptive to Obama simply on the basis of his race.
I don't think anyone connected to the Obama campaign has ever said that. There are always some assholes who imply that but it is just as true as someone not voting for McCain is against the elderly.
But as someone wrote here, if you are not voting for Obama just because he is black then yup, that's racist just like not voting for McCain because he is white is.
