Many females seek out males for talk--big mistake. That ismn't what they are looking for in females.
Males generally treat a female like a piece of glass (especially if it's a "friendship." As a guy, my test was, can I actt and talk like I would around the guys or is she going to act all holier than thou, so I have to be careful about what I say. It never seems to work out. I like men for friends and women for romance.

Try and try until you succeed. It is a skill to be learned , just like cycling and dancing; so keep at it and eventually you will succeed.

Confidance in what you are saying is key.
Also--- whatever you have to say it does matter.
and talking to girls -- i don't know why people think it's that hard.
I mean just come up and say I like your shoes... or whatev.. and she'll say thanks... and make a comment.... or
guys always impress me when they have an opinion and like a random fact or something.... "Did you know..." is always a good start.
i dunno.
just work at it.
the trick in conversation is to get them talking. ask questions that you will be interested in answering yourself
