So my boyfriend of 5 years goes to Texas A&M (I go to Baylor) and apparently these people from Southwestern Book Company came and spoke to him. It is a door to door sales program and I feel that it is extremely shady. This past summer I partook in a door to door job, and it is a job that I would never recommend to anyone, unless you want to lose weight and faint from a heatstroke. This job will have him shipped of to Tennessee for 3 whole months without me ever seeing him. (HATE THIS!) and I do have trust issues. (I mean 3 months no contact? and I hardly see him during the school year...) If he was doing this for the military I would understand, but selling books? Why not do it in Texas? Please tell me about this program if you know, because I feel that it is shady and I do not trust the pitch they gave him, plus my experience with a similar program makes me question it all the much more.

I'm sure you can find some reviews or blogs online about the company, but I agree it is a horrible job. They have come to my door, and they are very aggressive about selling things people really don't want. I don't think you have to worry about the trust issue with him because he will be working his butt off to even earn a few dollars a day. He would be much better off finding a job close to home.
If you go to Google.com and type "southwestern book" in the search box, you will find entries using the words "scam" and "deception" on the first page. Encourage your boyfriend to read them before he commits.
EDIT - Be sure to read what the "job" entails at:
http://www.bbb.org/nashville/business-reviews/publ...
which is the Better Business Bureau site. While this company has an A+ rating, it also had 90 complaints in the last 12 months. These college students don't work for the company, and they have to pay their own expenses.
