hi everyone so I'm in the 9th grade in HS and I'm in the LD (learning disability) program and i hate it so much its SO embarrassing its even embarrassing saying it. And this guy in my school is making fun of me and my friend because we are in LD classes because the guy is in regular classes and he is going to 1 honors class (English). and he was like you'll never go to your dream college and your always stay in LD classes and im DEFINIETLY not. I'm going to Inclusion Geometry Inclusion Biology and Regular Frence I next year. And I really wanted to try Honors Biology the reason why i wanted to take this class is 1.because i want to prove this guy wrong and show that LD students can accomplish things that regular students can 2. because i want to major in the subject in college. so my QUESTION is do you think i can take Honors Biology if i try my HARDEST.? 10 points for best answer !

Ignore him. He's just upset because he only gets to register for classes. You get to attend meetings with your parents, teachers, and administrators to help plan your education (IEP).
Knowing how to do this at least annually is important because college requires all students to completely advocate for themselves and their needs. The IEP meetings are a 'practice run' now help to get you used to this idea--listen to what people say, and learn how to provide feedback, take notes about your own case.
By the time college comes around, you're going to be a whiz at this--while he'll be the one struggling to just get used to everything. Having to take care of it all at once will be a brand new concept.
Honors in high school is still using the high school facilities. It's not like a college course--even in a college prep high school. I was all psyched to take an AP government class, but finding out we were still using the facilities of my high school and later realizing that a college does have larger academic facilities was sobering.
I'd hope that not too much is pinned on taking this one course. Down the road, it honestly won't matter. Trust me, having participated in your own IEPs is going to have helped prepare you much more for college.
As long as you pass your classes you'll get a diploma. You sound like an awesome student! Being in special ed doesn't make you less of a student AT ALL. A lot of kids you'd never even notice probably get extra help. If you're afraid of kids making fun of you, see if theres a way to get your help outside of the classroom so you don't have a para breathing down your neck in the classroom. I used to get special help in middle school for math, and the special ed para's would hunt me down! If I had been able to go to a room where nobody realized I was, I would have been much more comfortable with the idea of being a student getting special ed services. So, don't let the other kids around you get you down if in the unlikely chance they do make fun of you. I can almost guarantee you that they won't even notice because they have more important things to be thinking about than whose getting help and whose not. HS can be pretty dramatic so you being in Special Ed is definitely not going to be at the top of the rumor mill. Just relax and you'll do great.
You see my name & picture? This guy is doing exactly the one thing I am not happy about. Why is this guy harassing or bothering you because of your disability? He is a bully and has nothing better to do than to pick on someone who is different than him. For him to make you feel bad about yourself is exactly what he wants you to feel. Since he is making himself look good in-front of you, he is actually SUFFERING low self esteem issues.
You know if this guy is putting down, he is likely to drop out of college himself. I never went to a Ivy League college. I went to a small community college. I am happy with my education. The classes were small and no one felt they were better than another in my class.
If you are still in high school please tell a school principal or guidance counselor about this student. Most schools have a no tolerance to bullies.
Look up business people with learning problems. You will be surprised by what you find. Tom Cruise had difficulties with reading as well as Richard Branson, the owner of Virgin Airlines, just to name a few. You are not your disability. It only means that you have a difficult time reading/spelling. You probably have many strengths in other areas that this "Bully" does not have.
