Can this suddenly happen at 3 months old. My daughter was doing well on Similac advance and then suddenly she had gas cramps, screaming fits, hard stools and when she pooped it burned her bum. It sounded like she had lactose overload. Bc that seemed like the more likely culprit. I wasn't being super attentive to when she last ate and she may have got more then she needed. Hey Im not perfect. I have another child needs to deal with and got forgetful. Anyhow I put her on soy milk for a few days to help her "come down" and process that extra lactose. And she was doing really well. I have a case of similac concentrate that I hesitate to open bc what if she cant drink it? So last night and today I tried her out on powdered formula. She is fussy again. But not as bad. She could just be a "high needs" baby and that needs to be addressed. But could it be the powdered milk? I tried her on Good start and she vomited up the whole bottle in one splurt so switching is to that is out. And yes I am taking her to the doctor but in the meantime I would like to know what other Moms think.

It's actually pretty common to discover a lactose intolerance at this age. My son went to the doctor yesterday and we're going to try soy because he is going through exactly what you described- minus the hard stools. The gas is awful, he SCREAMS. And hey, I have twin 4 year olds as well, I consider it a good day if they're all fed and cleaned and healthy at the end of the day lol. I think you're exactly right about your daughter, although you may want to metion reflux to your doctor when you get in because my son has this, as well, and it can cause some of the things your daughter is experiencing. Good luck.
I use mylicon to help with the gas cramps and screaming fits...it's what my doctor recommended I use. I also switched to Similac soy powder formula and it seems to work wonders with my daughter. Lactose intolerance can randomly appear...it is not necessarily there from birth.
My son had that happen to him and he was put on Similac Alimentum. It's a hypoallergenic formula, and it worked wonders! It smells horrible and is expensive, but the gassy, fussy, puking, crying spells went away within a day of him being on that.
