Hi
I have been taking my Son to the Doctors for a while now due to him having swollen lymph nodes in his Neck & Groin. The 2 doctors I have spoken to have not been concern about this ongoing problem and said as he was 14 it was probably due to an infection etc.
2 Days ago we have striped his tiny room of his double bed and along the wall where you can not see, it was covered in damp / mould etc which had gone missed as the bed takes up the whole of his room & must have been brewing for the last 3 months. so my question is could this be the underlying factor to the infection in his body ??
Thanks

Absolutly. My lymph glads are always swollen due to allergies. The doctors are unconcerned when that's the reason. (they just give allergy medicine.)
It sounds like your son has a mold allergy. While swollen glands don't due permenant damage, it would make him way more comfortable if you got rid of that mold.
Your lymph nodes are located in the right and left sides of your upperneck directly under the jaw, underneath the chin, and under your arms (in the pits), behind the ears, in the groin, and near your collarbone. The lymph nodes can be as small as a pin and clustered in groups, or some are as big as an olive. Commonly the lymph nodes that are located in the neck, chin, and groin, are the ones that swell. I don't believe they become swollen when stressed, but different viruses can cause the lymph nodes to swell up. Some viruses can last for several weeks, and others are over in a few days. It depends on the strand of the virus. Also, they may swell with strep throat, or other infections such as an ear infection, or oral infection. There are other more serious problems that can cause swelling of the lymph nodes in different areas of the body. Hope you feel better soon. If this persists, see your doctor. You may need an antibiotic.
Any illness can cause swelling. Although some illnesses it can be more severe. Especially with something kidney related which causes fluid retention. It could be from the simple cold to HIV. The mumps perhaps. Mass chipmunk cheeks in that! You'll only know for sure after seeing the doctor. Swollen glands are typical in several illnesses. Especially anything effecting immunity. If he has a sheen and finger marks can be left impressed to the skin then it may be fluid retention. If it's ongoing swelling, I'd suspect kidneys. Unless he's just a chubby kid. HIV/AIDS is more glandular. Highly doubt that's his case! Does he have red lesions or skin patches- rashes? Lupus will do that. Is he urinating frequently- strong foul scented, discolored.. Another thing, is he yellowish mainly in the eyes, darkness around the eyes. That would be the liver. Although hypertension could cause swelling- the heart and the blood. You can grasp at anything. You need the other symptoms to compile together. Is his poop pale or chalky? liver ... Is it black like tar? high iron- blood system.. If I were you, get that kid to the doctor! The big cheeks, swollen glands is a strong indication something isn't working well.
Yes, Allergies are a commen cause of swollen lymph nodes. Most people tend to just think of colds and flus, but there thousands of things that can cause your lymph nodes to swell. Its just your bodies way of fighting anything that is abnormal to its defense system.
As longs as the nodes dont continually get bigger, or being to feel hard and firm, there is very little worry about.
