Mother knows what is best for YOUR situation. Here's why:

1) Wrestling, while not a martial art, is typically only taught to people who are in a school setting. That means odds are the only opportunity you have to learn wrestling will be between now and age 18. You MAY have a chance to learn it in college, but guess what? Not all colleges have a wrestling team. And also, by the time you get to college or high school, your coach may have more of an interest in developing his competitors than in building an athlete up from the ground floor.

2) Wrestling will probably be easier on the family budget. Judo is USUALLY not that expensive, and even Taekwondo can be cheap, but if the only martial arts schools that are around you are store fronts, then you are going to have to pay a lot to get trained. Now I am NOT knocking store front schools because they have to pay mortage, insurance, utilities, repairs and other costs. But, they are more expensive.

Unless you just do not get along with the other people on the team, or the coach, or the wrestling coach has some sort of severe character problem, you should take wrestling while you are in school, and enroll in Taekwondo AND, yes, AND Judo later, preferably when you have the money to pay for it yourself.

Keep in mind, there is no best martial art. I myself teach Taekwondo and also have studied Judo and put that into the Taekwondo that I teach. If it were possible for you to do more than one, I would recommend Taekwondo and Wrestling, then later switch to Taekwondo and Judo. But for right now, my gut tells me that Wrestling is probably better for YOU. This may be a good way for you to make friends and get more involved in your school and community.

Keep this in mind: may Judo players I have worked with took wrestling while they were in school. Once they were either out of school, or whenever wrestling season was over, they did Judo. So you see, you still could do some Judo whenever you are NOT doing wrestling. It is not always an either-or, sometimes it is a matter of time and timing.

Why don't you ask your mom WHY she wants you to take wrestling instead of the other two arts?

Wrestling. You need to know how to take somebody down, and how to keep them down.

Wrestling. It'll toughen you up.
