tattoo on lower back= no epidoral when your in labor?
my friend said that she heard that if you have a tattoo on your lower back that the doctors won't be able to give you an epidoral when your in labour. is that true?
A tattoo is only skin deep. It has no effect on an epidoral, which goes much deeper into the body (obviously). The only medical effect a tattoo is known to (sometimes) have is durring an MRI. Some inks, usually older ones, can contain trace amounts of metal salts that can cause a burning sensation in the tattooed area. This is usually countered with cold compress.
I'm not an expert, and you should talk to a doctor (or 2 or 3...) to get a difinitive answer, but a tattoo is just ink under the skin and should have no effect on any surgical procedure.

Nope, I gave Birth 3weeks ago and have a tattoo on my lower back and got the epidural, don't worry you can still have it. Good Luck
My dear, your friend is talking utter bollocks.
That's just one of those silly myths that belong back in the playground
Kebert: Doctors know **** all about tattoos, you'd be surprised how many of them get caught up in the whole urban legend thing too
i have a lower back tat and have had two kids with the option of having an epidural if i wanted one...so that is just a myth
I can't be sure, but if the tattoo is fully healed I don't see how this would affect getting an epidural.

apparently this isn't true......but honestly, even if you weren't going to use the Search Bar, why wouldn't this be a question you'd ask your doctor?
