When I try to play something like this:

My thumb always hurts.it looks kinda like this: (only its not my picture!)

Any ways to help? Every time I make a 'c' with my hand and try to reach the chord I can't get it and my fingers slant to the side.
Please help!

If it's uncomfortable to use your thumb, then don't. I don't really use my thumb much... Actually, I don't at all. Try only using your thumb for the low E string(when necessary). This should be using your index finger.
The only time I use my thumb on my fret hand is to assist in string muting. It doesn't matter if your fingers "slant to the side" as long as they're still in the proper position for making the chord you want to play.
If you're still having problems, maybe you should try some lessons from a qualified teacher.
