Is it true that a journey away from earth for only a couple years is equal to over a thousand earth years? so i could go away from earth for a couple years and come back and it could be the year 4000??? this might sound dumb, but i want an answer

It's only true if you're journey happens at nearly the speed of light and covers 1000 light years in each direction. If you travel at ordinary velocities, the time dilation is barely measurable and won't significantly affect your age relative to anyone else.
Only if you were travelling at a speed very close to that of light (relative to the earth).
But the practical side is that it would probably take you nearly 10 years to get up to those speeds, and at least the same to slow down so you could land safely.
