I prefer TiVO because of simplicity of use. We love them. Their schedule is always correct because it is updated every day. I can program TiVO to record from out of town over the Internet. TiVO learns what you like and recommends shows that you might like. Often times we never would have known they were on. You can program an entire season of a given series with a single click and TiVO never forgets. You can tell TiVO you like someone or something and it will locate shows for you. For example if you tell it you like John Wayne it will watch for and record anything he is on.
I could go on and on about TiVO. There is one downside and that is the monthly (you can pay yearly if you want) fee.
absolutely, TiVo is well worth the price!! The unit itself is usually discounted and the subscription is well worth the price, plus if you get a second TiVo unit, the second subscription is heavily discounted. You can hook your TiVo up to work with your internet connection as long as you have a wireless modem. The TiVo will come with very user friendly instructions on how to hook everything up and if you run into any problems, their customer service reps are very helpful and will be able to assist you in setting everything up. You will love the service provided by TiVo, there are too many things to list that it will do for you, but remember, even though TiVo IS a DVR, it does more than a DVR that your cable company rents to you. When you subscribe to the TiVo service you get all kinds of perks. Be sure to visit the TiVo website to see what all you get. You will never miss another show you want to see AND if you decide you love your TiVo as much as I know you will, you might even decide to get another TiVo unit. The TiVos are capable of working together with your wireless internet connection. You can watch something you've recorded on one TiVo on the other TiVo etc.
Just go to the website and look at your options and trust me, I've been a very happy TiVo subscriber for 5 years and never ONCE did I regret buying my TiVo, EVER. I would rather do without just about anything than my TiVo!!!
It use to be worth the money, but now Tivo raised the monthly fee to $18/month. It use to be $12.95/month. I think $18 is a little steep just so you can record your shows and get their TV guide service.
While I love Tivo's user interface, money talks, so I went with Comcast's DVR service, which is only $5/month. Plus Comcast's DVR records HD service.
As for the Tivo, you have to either have a landline or an internet connection. If you have cable internet, then you need purchase a router, so you can share the internet connection between your Tivo and computer.
