my coach put me on the team as a shotput and discus thrower. i wanna do more than that, like a running event. i suck at throwing and i think i would be a little better in a running event. whats the shortest / easiest running event i could do and how should i talk to my coach about it ???
p.s, im a little out of shape and i never really joined a sport until now, im a descent runner though.

I disagree that the 400 is the easiest. To me that is almost baiting you into a trap. The 400 is the kind of length that can seem like anyone should be able to run it, but when you actually compete, it can unpleasantly surprise you how you go into oxygen debt by exerting yourself to run it as fast as you *think* you can.
Other races that are shorter are specifically meant for the true sprinters so there's no easy way to answer your question IMO.
If you are willing to work hard the four hundred is the event where you can show the most improvement. You have to be naturally very fast to do well in the shorter races, and to do well in the longer races you need to build a lot of stamina. But run the other distances as well in practice, by running longer than 400 you will build the stamina to keep up a good pace for the entire 400.
Well, if your quick, the 200 is the best. Just enough to get up to speed, but short enough to not be too tiring. If you enjoy the distance, run the mile or 2 mile. They're fun too. Now about your coach...I run track and I know my coach's favorite kids are the ones who are willing to do anything. So just politely ask if maybe you could try one of the running events to test yourself.
The shortest run is the 100 meter, but it's not the easiest to be good at.
first of all, the guy that said the thing about the 400 is not true. if youre not in shape the 400 will cause you to build so much lactic acid causing major cramps. ive run it for 6 years. i know. i suggest the 100. its way fast but it goes by so quick.
idk maybe you should asked to be timed on a few things in practice becuase shortest distance isn't always easiest. get your coach to time you with a sprint like the 100 and maybe an 800 or a mile. also if you havent tried any jumping events or pole vaulting you may want to try those in practice.
i also run track.
&& if your fast you should try the 200.
or even the 400.
they are both pretty fast pace races.
the 800 is a lil longer but you can set your own pace,
with out being left behind.
the 400 is by far the easiest race. its for people that arent really fast, and cant stand up to long distance races. just ask your coach if you can do the event
